In commercial facility management, leaks are devestating and measurable.  For the modern enterprise, a single undetected leak in a high-density data center or a medical cleanroom represents a catastrophic failure in potential infrastructure lost.

How reliable is your leak detection? Many commercial buildings do not have leak detection installed. While consumer-grade water sensors rely on crowded 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bands and fragile plastic housings, professional-grade mitigation requires a hardened hardware stack.

The Flair Electronics solution to water detection lies in a decoupled architecture: pairing Inovonics 900 MHz EchoStream® wireless transport with Flair Electronics’ precision-engineered sensing probes.

The Backbone of Inovonics EN1751

The Inovonics EN1751 transmitter serves as the system’s wireless engine. Unlike standard Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, which struggle with multi-path interference and signal attenuation in reinforced concrete environments, the EN1751 utilizes Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology on the 900 MHz band.

  • RF Penetration: The 900 MHz wavelength is physically longer than 2.4 GHz, allowing it to diffract around obstacles and penetrate structural steel and masonry that would typically reflect higher-frequency signals.

  • Signal Integrity: By hopping across multiple frequencies within the band, the system avoids localized interference, ensuring that a critical “Water Detected” packet reaches the receiver even in RF-noisy industrial environments.

  •  24/7 Supervision: The EN1751 is programmed for autonomous “heartbeat” check-ins. If the transmitter is damaged or the battery voltage drops below a defined threshold, the head-end system triggers a trouble alert, eliminating the “silent failure” risk common in lower-end hardware.

It’s Always On: Flair High-Sensitivity Probes

A wireless signal is only as valuable as the data it carries. Flair Electronics designs its water probes to meet industrial specifications that exceed typical commercial requirements.

  • Sub-Surface Detection Logic: The 1010-H2OS36-EN1751 probe is calibrated for high-sensitivity detection. The gold-plated or stainless-steel contacts are set to trigger at a liquid height of just 3/16”. This ensures an alarm state is reached at the inception of a “puddle” event, long before a “flood” event occurs.

  • Corrosion Resistance: Unlike cheap copper-contact sensors that oxidize over time—increasing electrical resistance and eventually failing to trip—Flair probes utilize non-corrosive materials to ensure low-impedance conductivity throughout the product’s lifecycle.

  • Supervised Wiring Loops: Flair’s technical advantage includes End-of-Line (EOL) resistor compatibility. This allows the system to distinguish between a “Water Alarm,” a “Dry State,” and a “Tamper/Cut-Wire” event. If a maintenance contractor accidentally severs a probe wire, the system identifies the break immediately rather than leaving the zone unprotected.

Flexible, Critical Infrastructure: Where to Install the EN1751

  • Data Centers
  • Commercial AC Units
  • Restrooms
  • Utility & Mechanical Rooms
  • Inventory & Stock Rooms
  • Outside Windows and Doors

Deployment Without Disruption

The technical brilliance of the Flair/Inovonics partnership is its “Zero-Impact” installation. The system requires no structural cabling (lowering CAPEX) and can be integrated into existing security or BMS (Building Management System) panels via dry contact relays or serial data streams. It is a professional-grade upgrade that installs with the speed of a standalone device but performs with the robustness of a hardwired network.
