Magnetic Contacts

A magnetic contact also called a door position switch is a simple yet highly effective security sensor used to detect when a door, gate or window is opened. It consists of two main parts, a sensor switch and a magnet.

When the door, gate or window is closed, the magnet and sensor are aligned, keeping the circuit closed. If the door or window is opened, the magnet moves away from the sensor, breaking the magnetic field and causing the switch to change state, triggering the connected security or monitoring system.
